Heavy-duty truck engine seals

MicroTorq HD dynamic seals for on-highway and off-highway applications reduce friction by up to 55% compared to traditional polytetrafluoroethylene. Heavy-duty engines have larger shaft sizes and increased constraints that the seal must accommodate and have to operate in extremely severe environments, including exposure to contaminants.

Design features, such as the dual-hinge flex section, static band, hydrodynamic aids, and shaft-following auxiliary lip, were customized for MicroTorq HD to account for the more demanding requirements of heavy-duty engines.

Combining MicroTorq HD with Flat-Install creates a hybrid sealing solution. Flat-Install’s labyrinth of non-contacting lips block contaminants from reaching and breaking down the main sealing surface, extending seal life in dirty conditions such as off-highway operation. Combining that technology with the low-friction sealing principle in the MicroTorq HD seal lowers total cost of ownership by having a longer time between overhauls and energy savings through low-friction technology.

IoT module

The LE920A4 LTE Cat 4 smart module, part of the automotive-grade cellular IoT module family, offers 150Mbps data transfer to satisfy a growing demand for high-speed mobile data connectivity. It is available in variants compliant with regional regulatory and mobile carrier requirements for cars in North America, Europe, and China.

With built-in application processor, storage, and memory, the LE920A4 can run programs completely within the module. Programs have full access and control of the hardware resources, which include advanced multi-standard satellite navigation, analog-to-digital converters, audio interfaces, serial and USB 2.0 ports, and other general purpose direct and multiplexed I/O.

Suspension dampening system

Hydraulic compression stops (HCS) integrated into the dampers reduce the peak force transmitted to the vehicle body at the limit of compression, allowing the vehicle body to be lighter because the strength and stiffness requirements are lower for the same standard of refinement and durability.

The system is more tuneable than traditional bump stops, improving vehicle dynamic performance and noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH). Reduced load peaks, better cushioned by HCS, allows chassis designers to make greater use of the available damper travel.

HCS is being developed to suit applications where high and low levels of damping are required. The high level damping HCS optimizes hydraulic rebound stop technology for use in compression by adding a sealed hydraulic chamber with a by-pass to the damper’s existing compression valve. For lower levels of damping, a damper tube can be swaged to give two diameters. The larger diameter is the main damper valve, the smaller engages a second valve at the chosen threshold of travel before the limiting stroke is reached.

Medium-amperage connection system

The ePower-Lite medium-amperage connection system is rated up to 70A of continuous current with an 800VDC operating voltage.

Designed for the hybrid and electric vehicle markets, these connectors feature a lightweight plastic shell and compact design to provide weight and space savings in vehicle architecture. The ePower-Lite features 2-, 3-, and 4-way systems with optional high-voltage interlock loop and electromagnetic interference shielding.

The ePower-Lite connector series incorporates 3.6mm terminals with Amphenol’s RADSOK technology for higher current ratings, lower insertion forces, and lower temperature rise and contact resistance. Due to the low insertion force, no mechanical assist is required. These touch-proof connectors are RoHS compliant and can be used for charging or accessory power. The ePower-Lite can be mated a minimum of 100 times.

Hi-res LiDAR

The Puck Hi-Res light, detection, and ranging (LiDAR) sensor provides higher resolution in captured 3D images, allowing objects to be identified at greater distances. The VLP-16 Puck is a 16-channel, real-time, 3D LiDAR sensor that weighs 830g.

Puck Hi-Res retains the VLP-16 Puck’s 360° horizontal field-of-view (FoV) and 100m range, and adds a 20° vertical FoV for a tighter channel distribution – 1.33° between channels instead of 2.00° – delivering greater details in the 3D image at longer ranges.

Hybrid, electric powertrain controller

The OLEA T222 automotive microcontroller with embedded and secured programmable logic has been designed to optimize electric machines in hybrid electric vehicles and electric vehicles. Flexibility, real-time parallel processing, and safe architecture makes it suitable to control all flavors of hybridization – micro, mild, or full – including integrated belt-starter generator, crankshaft motor-driven generator, gearbox motor-driven generator, in-wheel motor, in-axle motor, DC/DC converter, and full-electric powertrains.

OLEA T222 allows downsizing the electric motors, offering energy efficiency without compromising vehicle performance.

OLEA T222 features AMEC technology, a real-time, determinist, and parallel interface that combines an embedded programmable logic area (AMEC FLU) and an actuator/sensor peripherals unit (AMEC PrP). AMEC can perform a high-frequency control loop (200kHz or higher) with a high accuracy while ensuring safety integrity levels with response time to any system failure in the range of 100ns.
