FORTiS enclosed linear absolute encoders for harsh environments are built on Resolute encoder technology and provide high resistance to the ingress of liquids and solid contaminants. They feature extruded enclosures with longitudinally attached interlocking lip seals and sealed end caps. The IP67-sealed read head body is joined to a sealed optical unit by a blade which travels through the lip seals along the length of the encoder. Linear axis movement causes the read head and optics to traverse the encoder’s absolute scale fixed to the inside of the enclosure without mechanical contact.

The encoders deliver consistent repeatability, reduced hysteresis, and improved measurement performance because of a non-contact mechanical design requiring no mechanical guidance carriages. Integrated, tuned mass dampers deliver 30g vibration resistance.

Encoders, when installed with mounting spars, are rated up to 30g to ensure dependable metrology in harsh environments and demanding motion control applications.

Sealing on the read head prevents contamination by liquids, swarf, and other debris. Improved sealing reduces air leakage from the air purge system, lowering operating costs and increasing system longevity.
