5-axis vertical machining center

The VC-500A/5X vertical machining center has a trunnion-style rotary/tilt table for processing small complex parts via 5-axis machining. The machine also features the Mazatrol SmoothX CNC that allows for easier programming and faster part cycle times, in either EIA or Mazatrol conversational.

The 60-tool capacity magazine reduces setup time, allows for redundant tooling, and provides more unmanned, uninterrupted operations. In tandem with the magazine, the machine’s automatic tool changer provides fast tool exchanges for overall reductions in non-cut times. Tool monitoring on the VC-500A/5X maximizes production efficiency and lowers operating costs via early problem detection.

An oil chiller cools the VC-500A/5X’s head and table. The machine’s trunnion-style rotary-tilt table is constructed with high-speed roller gear cam drive technology for torsional rigidity and positioning accuracy. The table tilts ±110° in the B-axis and rotates 360° in the C-axis.

Printed circuit board conformal coating

Multi-Cure 9-20557 is for rapid conformal coating of printed circuit boards and other electronic assemblies in military and commercial vehicles. The MIL-I-46058C listed product is formulated to remain on the edges of difficult-to-wet components and sharp leads, while its low modulus supports thermal shock performance.

UL approved and compliant with IPC-CC-830, Multi-Cure 9-20557 has been optimized for coating thicknesses between 51µm (0.002") and 510µm (0.020"). The medium-viscosity material is compatible with most types of spray equipment. It fluoresces vivid blue when exposed to UV light (365nm) for inspection of the coating coverage. In addition, its secondary heat-cure feature allows the coating to cure with heat in applications where shadowed areas exist.

Network communications link

Slim design, 4-port IO-Link masters connect smart devices to build distributed machine mount control architecture for automation. With IP67 housing, the industrial Ethernet based IO-Link masters can be mounted directly on the machine – close to sensors and actuators – keeping cable runs short and adding enhanced diagnostics. EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, and EtherCAT versions are available.

The Type A IO-Link mini-master can host up to 120 configurable discrete I/Os when connected to Balluff IO-Link I/O hubs with an expansion port.
