Additive, metallic component manufacturing
RenAM 500M builds complex metallic components using metal powder bed fusion technology. The machine manufactures parts within the 250mm x 250mm x 350mm build volume (9.84" x 9.84" x 13.77") and uses a high-powered ytterbium fiber laser to fuse fine metallic powders, creating functional 3D parts.
In-line sieving allows powder to be recycled and re-used in a single process under an inert atmosphere, reducing user interaction and turnaround time. Metallic powder is loaded into the machine hopper at the front of the system and sieved ultrasonically. Any un-melted material is returned to the hopper and passes through the ultrasonic sieve before being processed. Sieved powder is pneumatically transferred in a flow of high purity argon gas into the powder delivery silo.
Designed to be dedicated to a single material type, RenAM 500M supports lights-out manufacturing by providing a higher level of automation than the AM250 and AM400 platforms.

The SFcompact chip conveyor filters coolant to 50µm and handles chip types and sizes from stainless steel to brass and aluminum. Instead of a large-footprint, drum-based design, the system uses self-cleaning dual filters that can be removed in 15 minutes after removing the chip conveyor.
The filtering system is integrated within the rigid frame, so the chip conveyor takes up no more floor space than a typical hinge-belt conveyor and will work with the existing coolant tank.

Optical, touch inspection system
MarShaft Scope 600 plus 3D combines optical and touch sensors in the same unit, providing 3D functionality and complete inspection of the workpiece in a single measurement. The matrix camera optically measures characteristics such as diameter, length, radius, shape, and location characteristics in seconds while a 2D sensor detects features that are not optically measurable, such as cam lift on concave cam profiles and reference (clocking) features such as holes or keyways.

Inspection gage expansion
An expansion to Slater Tools’ accessory line now includes go/no-go inspection gages. In addition to standard sizes, inspection gages can be manufactured to custom specifications to aid with manufacturing quality assurance. Go/no-go gages inspect for process variations such as form size, twist, and tool wear and are held to extremely tight tolerances.

Coolant ring tool holders
Heat-treated steel coolant ring technology holders come with a black oxide coating. They are engineered to improve coolant penetration deep into the bore, reducing temperature at the cutting edge. Tool overhang with the holders is infinitely adjustable, allowing for chatter-free performance. The holders can be used in conjunction Scientific Cutting Tools’ boring bars and/or qualified threading tools for quick change machining at optimal performance.

Multisensor metrology software
ZONE3 Version 4, 3D CAD-based multisensor metrology software features include:
- Finders and video tools – the auto adjust light finder automatically adjusts a light source to an intensity goal; a blob tool finder locates irregular geometries and reports their areas and centroid locations in single or multiple fields-of-view(s); the area multi-focus finder creates an array of 3D data points that can be used in constructions or feature definitions. An advanced edge detection finder, and an acquire image tool allow a video image to be captured and saved in various formats.
- Replace CAD – a productivity tool can update a CAD file in an existing part routine when the part design changes. ZONE3 automatically eliminates steps in the routine associated with deleted features.
- New ways to perform alignments – current alignment can ensure current datum alignment is applied to a geometric tolerance and dimension step rather than specifying each datum individually; alignment indexer for sequencing and numbering alignments used in a repeat loop to optimize runtime and associate each measurement with its coordinate system alignment.
- Constructions – extreme point, where the measured point for the most extreme feature in a specified direction may be constructed, reported, and/or used as an expression variable angle measurements. Complementary or supplementary angles in any plane may be reported.
- Tolerance options – user-defined global block tolerances, ISO 2768 tolerances (fine, medium, coarse, very coarse), user-defined decimal digits, unilateral tolerances, and ISO tolerances.

Helical milling cutters
The M4000 product family adds the M4256, M4257, and M4258 high-performance helical milling cutters. The M4000 program allows one insert style to be used in a variety of tools, permitting a wide array of milling operations. Using a system insert reduces the cost per cutting edge and time and costs involved in inventory requirements.
Adding M4256, M4257, and M4258 helical milling cutters extends those advantages to milling. The new milling cutters can also be used for ramping, pocket milling, shoulder milling, and circular interpolation. Standard inserts are available for applications in steel, cast iron, stainless steels, and difficult-to-cut materials. Mounting configurations are available with Weldon shank, modular ScrewFit interface, and shell mill adaption.

The Yasda Micro Center YMC 430 Ver. II is for ultra-precise manufacturing and high surface finishing on small, complex features. Linear motor-driven controlled axes and a rigid machine structure offer speed, precision, and surface quality. It is available with 3-axis or 5-axis capabilities. Linear positioning and circularity accuracy of <1µm is possible.
The 40,000rpm HSK-E32 spindle minimizes vibration and offers high reliability and repeatability in micro-milling applications. A symmetrical H-shaped column and a low-center-of-gravity structure provide high rigidity. The YMC 430 X-Y table has linear guideways and motor drive. Linear motor drives include optical scales that support and sustain sub-micron milling performance.
The optional 5-axis micro-milling configuration is equipped with a motor-driven, direct-drive, high-precision tilting rotary table. This combination provides multi-face indexing and machining as well as simultaneous 5-axis machining without re-chucking. Applying the direct-drive motor to a tilted and rotary axis creates backlash-free, high-speed, high-precision positioning.

The system’s basic rails are calibrated to fit the Erowa UPC and Erowa MTS production tooling systems. Clamping elements can be quickly positioned on the serrated base rails and used horizontally or vertically. Precision carbide tooling
Louis Belet SA precision carbide Expert series tooling packages are designed for aluminum, brass, titanium, stainless steels, and composite material groups. The packages incorporate optimized geometries and coatings for drills, end mills, slotting saws, thread mills, engraving, and spotting tools. Vision measurement systems
The Quick Vision Active series offers a wide field of view with interchangeable objective zoom lenses for small-to-large features. An 8-step zoom lens can magnify range from 0.5x to 7x. The 1x optional objective achieves a magnification range of 0.5x to 3.5x with a working distance of 74mm. The 2x option can achieve a magnification range of 1x to 7x.
The series is available with measuring ranges of 10" x 8" x 6" (250mm x 200mm x 150mm) or 16" x 16" x 8" (400mm x 400mm x 200mm), with or without the touch-probe measuring option. QVPAK software uses edge detection and pattern recognition to locate and orientate the coordinate system with minimal operator input for accuracy and repeatability.

By interfacing with the CAD model – an integrated part of measuring and inspection with the video measurement systems – users can take programming and inspection offline, improving programming work, saving time, and bringing products to market faster.
With CMM-Manager 3.5, users import a range of 3D CAD models and can pick features to create automatic probe paths for vision and tactile measuring. Modular QLS fixture plate, quick change connection
The quick locating system (QLS) fixture plate is designed for use with the Jergens’ Ball-Lock quick change system. With the connection to Ball-Lock, the QLS allows users to add the entire Fixture- Pro system.
Use of the Fixture-Pro range extends the machining envelope on 5-axis machines. The modular workholding of Fixture-Pro, combined with Ball-Lock location features, provides a multiplying effect on productivity. Ball-Lock sub-plates mount directly to the machine table and provide the connection to the new QLS system, which in turn connects to virtually any combination of Fixture-Pro risers, adapters and top tooling.

Advanced comparator video technology
VidiProbe, available on CCP comparators, transforms a traditional comparator into an automated video measurement system by configuring a digital video camera inside the comparator’s optical system. VidiProbe presents the comparator screen image on a video monitor, allowing automatic measurement of a variety of features, including surfaces. In addition to providing automation, the digital zoom allows for higher magnification of small features without the need for extra lenses.
VidiProbe is a hybrid system for use as a shop-hardened, traditional comparator, or as an automatic vision system. Incorporation of this video technology as part of the quality control process increases capabilities and eliminates operator error.

CNC machine lineup
Four models in the third-generation of opposed gang tool CNC lathes, identified with a “-III” after their base model numbers, will be released at IMTS 2016.
The electrical control cabinet moves from inside the machines to an external position behind the machines, and engineers installed two additional support ribs for enhanced rigidity.
Software offers part program checking, analyzes the part program code, and provides the operator with suggested code optimizations to increase the operating speed of the program and subsequently reduce part cycle time. The thermal displacement compensation function has been enhanced and can now be used on every linear axis.
The machines include free Abile programming software and convertible, meaning they can run a traditional Swiss-style lathes using a guide bushing or operated with an optional chucker kit, which can be quickly installed.

Automatic magazine-style bar feedersThe FMB Turbo 5-55, 5-65, and Turbo 8-80 are automatic magazine style bar feeders for processing bars in the diameter ranges of 5mm to 55mm, 5mm to 65mm, and 8mm to 80mm and in lengths from 12ft to 14ft on CNC lathes. Quick change polyurethane guide channels allow for quiet operation at high rpm while feeding round, square, or hex bar stock. The product line is compatible with many fixed headstock lathes, and Swiss-type synchronization is available.

14-edge milling cutter
Offering high productivity and a low cost per edge, the CoroMill 745 has a double-sided, multi-edge for large batch productions. With a tilted insert positioning system and sharp cutting edges, the milling cutter offers a light cutting action at low power consumption. The tool offers 14 cutting edges per insert for face milling. The assortment includes three pitch versions for different applications: MD, M, and H.
Designed for easy insert indexing, the insert positioning system in the tip seat and heptagonal insert design keep the inserts securely in the pocket when mounting. The inserts are tilted in the tip seat to create a positive cutting action. Insert geometries and grades are available for steel and cast iron. For roughing to semi-finishing applications, the strong and light cutting inserts provide reliable face milling in all types of milling machines.
